Finding 500 welcoming homes for children in care through fostering, adoption, and supported lodgings

The number of children in care across the North West region has risen by one third since 2011, with 15,000 children in the care system.

There is a significant need for safe and supportive foster families to meet the needs of children entering care, many of whom experience three or more moves each year. In addition, as of September 2020 there were 290 children waiting for an adoptive home. We know that around half of these children and young people have been waiting for more than 18 months already.

We believe the Church is ideally placed to ensure that every child and young person has the loving home they need. As part of Festival Manchester, Home for Good are delighted to inspire, inform and journey with Christians who are exploring the part they can play in finding 500 new homes across Greater Manchester for children and young people through fostering, adoption and supported lodgings.

What is Festival Manchester?

Festival Manchester is an initiative of the Message Trust, the Luis Palau association and hundreds of local churches, businesses, and organisations. It seeks to reach all aspects of society with the gospel of Jesus.  Through its ‘Love Where U Live’ initiative it is focussing on homelessness, the environment, social action, food poverty and, through its partnership with Home for Good - fostering, adoption and supported lodgings for teenagers. This will culminate in a region wide major festival in Wythenshawe Park in Manchester in July 2022.

Are you a church leader?

Home for Good is passionate about inspiring the local church to welcome, understand and support families who love and raise care-experienced children. With dedicated resources, speakers, training and up-to-date local information regarding the existing need within the care system, we can help you to explore the part your church could play.

Are you already a foster carer, adoptive parent or supported lodgings host?

There is nothing like learning from someone who has already walked the road ahead of you. Could you help us encourage, support and champion others?

Do you work, or have you in the past, within the social care sector?

We would love to hear from you, too! We work with adoption and fostering agencies, local authorities and other statutory organisations, and are always looking to develop new relationships in this area.

We all have a part to play – what could your part be?

‘God loves to partner with us, and I believe that there are already homes waiting for all children and young people that need one. Perhaps we just need to join in! I am providing as many opportunities as possible for others to hear this call. I’m seeking to equip individuals, couples and families to have courage to respond. I would love to talk to you further about how we can do this together.’

Home for Good · Will you make room for me?

“Will You Make Room For Me” is an original song written by Chip Kendall with Home for Good for Festival Manchester. Echoing the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:31-46, the song invites us to look into our own hearts, our homes and our families and consider where we can extend welcome, show hospitality and make room.
