Mother's Day

Mother's Day - Sunday 22 March 2020

Our theme for 2020 is Today is about you. We want to encourage everyone to see that Mother’s Day isn’t just about birth mothers, but all those who show motherly love to children. These resources explore the stories of a diverse group of biblical women – Sarah, the midwives of Israel, Naomi, Anna, Eunice, Lois and the daughter of Pharaoh – to show that showing love to children can come in all different shapes and sizes. We have grounded this with stories of modern women who are doing the same today. We’re currently putting the finishing touches on this, but will be releasing it when it’s ready.

We have also created a suite of resources that reflect their stories. These include:

- A congregational prayer

- An all age service plan

- A youth group session

- A children’s group session

- Sermon outline notes

- Creative prayer ideas

For some, Mother’s Day is a wonderful day of celebration, but for those in our congregations with difficult stories, journeys of infertility, challenging relationships, or a hundred other experiences, Mother’s Day can be a painful reminder of who’s missing.

>

Home for Good wants to equip churches to be great places for anyone to come to on Mother’s Day – whatever their experience of motherhood.

>

Our resources sensitively embrace the stories in our congregations using biblical reflections, grounded in modern day realities.

Our hope is that through our Mother's Day resources we would also raise awareness of the needs of vulnerable children and inspire people to consider how they can care for them. This might be a direct call to fostering or adoption, it might be supporting those who do through wrap-around care.
