Find out how we are finding homes for children in South West England

How wonderful it has been to see the impact of our team growing in the South West! Bristol Co-ordinator, Stu, has been getting to know Champions and church leaders in Bristol, attending Bristol Youth Ministry Network, Keyboard Trust and Together4Bristol events. Further south, Maren has been meeting Champions and church leaders in Torbay, attending an inaugural Torbay Civic and Faith Leaders meeting and taking part in Pray Torbay’s online event in October.

South West Lead, Clare Walker, has been busy too; sharing the work of Home for Good with Pray Plymouth, joining the Plymouth City Transformation Conference and leading a table conversation at RoC (Redeeming our Communities) Bristol East. We’ve had the joy of meeting with a number of local churches over the past few months to share with congregations and host vision and information events, including St John's, St James', St Nick’s and Horndean Baptist Church. Clare says:

I had a wonderful conversation with J at Horndean Baptist Church when I spoke there in October. J signed up as a regular donor when Home for Good visited the church three years ago, and she still remembers the handwritten card we sent to say thank you. J was adopted by her teacher when she was seven, after both parents died in WWII. There are amazing stories and amazing generosity in this little church. They sent me on my way with hot soup and bread, and lovely flowers.

There have been a lot of opportunities for us to celebrate with others in our community. We are delighted to have collaborated with B&A Church and Bristol Food Union to deliver hampers to foster families, and are so thankful to our fantastic local Champions who organised a party for fostering and adoptive families in Torbay. Our local movement lead, Dave Kingswood, organiseda lunch for foster carers in Bath, kindly hosted by Life Church. 2021 has come to a very festive close, as we joined the Christmas Tree Festivals in Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge and Bristol.

As we step into the new year, we are really looking forward to hosting a celebration at Bath Abbey on 11 February. Our CEO, Tarn Bright, will be joining us as we encourage and thank those who commit their lives to caring for vulnerable children and inspire churches to see that everyone has a role to play in enabling all children to have a Home for Good. We can’t wait to celebrate with foster carers, kinship carers, adoptive families and supported lodgings hosts in Bath.

We’re also looking forward to hosting a Foundations Course in Bristol in the Spring, and plans are coming together to host a tour with theatre company Riding Lights in the summer as we seek to inspire people to open the conversation about caring for vulnerable children and young people through drama.

What can I be praying for?

We would love you to stand with us in prayer as we continue to work to find a home for every child who needs one in the South West.

  • Thank God for our wonderful Champions in the region, and pray our network will continue to grow, particularly in Wiltshire and Plymouth.
  • Pray for new church relationships to develop with opportunities for both Stu and Maren to speak and share of God’s heart for vulnerable children.
  • Please pray into our decisions regarding where theatre company Riding Lights will visit and perform. Pray that we can accommodate the touring actors with welcome and hospitality!
  • Let’s pray that together we really can find a home for every child who needs one.
Are there any events happening soon that I can attend?
