Find out how we are finding homes for children in Yorkshire and North East England

Almost three years since we were last able to gather in-person for the Home for Good Summit, on 7 May 2022, we were finally able to come together - some online via livestream, some in-person in Milton Keynes. Our day was fuelled by and focused on the words of 1 Corinthians 12 as we reflected together on God’s heart and how we each have a part to play to care for children and young people, knowing that together we can find a home for every child who needs one. You can read more about the Summit here.

We were delighted to host the Riding Lights theatre tour of My Place, with performances in York, Sheffield, Leeds and Bradford. The play depicts the stories of young people in care in a poignant and powerful way, and offered us at Home for Good a special and unique opportunity to speak about the local and national need and share our vision with the audience. We’ve been so encouraged by the stories we’ve heard from audience members and the feedback we’ve received. Please pray that this opportunity will lead to more individuals, couples and families becoming foster carers, adoptive parents and supported lodgings hosts, and that children and young people will be welcomed into safe and loving homes. One Champion who attended the show in Sheffield told us,

“What a performance! Such an insightful and empathetic set of stories that you truly got lost in. I wish I had brought others along too, as it’s such a rare thing to see these stories portrayed so powerfully!”

A real highlight of the theatre tour has been developing relationships with the churches in the areas where the play has been performed, including St. Pauls Ireland Wood in Leeds, Fountains Church in Bradford and Chapeltown Methodist in Sheffield.

Regional Lead Pippa has been continuing to connect with churches and church networks in Yorkshire and the North East, building relationships with church leaders and other contacts. It was great to meet with Bishop Sophie from Diocese of Sheffield.

We have a number of exciting opportunities in the coming weeks:

  • We’re hoping to host a Home for Good Foundations course in Leeds in June – contact Pippa if you’re interested in finding out more!
  • We’re excited to be part of a family support day in York on 18 June. Contact Pippa for more information.
What can I be praying for?

We would love you to stand with us in prayer as we continue to work to find a home for every child who needs one in Yorkshire and the North East.

  • Give thanks for the Home for Good Summit, and for the opportunity we had to gather together!
  • Pray that following the tour with Riding Lights, we’ll see a ripple effect as awareness of the local and national need increases, and more and more individuals, couples and families begin to consider how they might respond.
  • Pray for our upcoming events, as we seek to grow our connections and build positive relationships that will lead to lasting change here in Yorkshire and the North East.
Are there any events happening soon that I can attend?

Head over to Yorkshire and North East England page to find out what is happening in the area and find all the local support groups.
