Rethink orphanages

We believe that children thrive in families and that institutions cannot compete with the intrinsic benefit that family life has on a child’s holistic development. For this reason, we call on the Church to offer foster or adoptive homes for children here in the UK.

We believe that as we talk to the Church and to the Government about the importance of family-based care for children in the UK, we also have a responsibility to help both understand how they can promote the same for children overseas.

For this reason, we have taken on the role as Faith Liaison to the ReThink Orphanages European Hub, a coalition of organisations including Save the Children, UNICEF UK, Lumos and Hope and Homes for Children.

years of child development research has shown the negative impact that institutional care has on children

For many years, churches and Christian organisations have been committed supporters of vulnerable children overseas. In fact, in a recent piece of research commissioned by Home for Good and conducted by the research agency ComRes, we found that British churchgoers are significantly more likely to actively support children overseas.

We want to help the Church, Christian organisations and individuals to channel their huge support to projects which help children thrive and promote international best practice in accordance with the latest research on child development.
